Other safety precaution measures should also apply. Keep newspapers and other combustible materials away from your furnace and other sources of heat. Turn off all the appliances when you leave the room or house. Make sure to eliminate tangles of electrical cords and do not overload electrical outlets. You may also remove or replace malfunctioning appliances and devices. Most importantly, place any fire protection equipment inside your home such as smoke or fire detector and alarm, fire extinguisher and/or fire escape ladder. This way, protection and prevention will both come in handy.
On the other hand, there are local ordinances pertaining to fire regulations where fire department officials must require permit, inspection, and approval of f – protection systems installed in new buildings or even old operational structures. They impose strict policies and standards depending on various aspects like building classification, building height, number of floors, type of construction, hazardous material usage and storage, and the standards based on the design and installation of each specific protection system.
Such fire protection systems include water supply, fire alarm and automatic sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, manual suppression systems, and smoke control/management systems. It also includes emergency power equipment, hazardous material monitoring equipment, kitchen equipments and exhaust systems, and seismic considerations.
Administratively, fire officials should make a reasonable decision regarding the approval of protection systems in terms of ordinances and regulations, suggestion of a complete system, require addition, expansion, modification and repair to existing systems, and provision of exemption or special consideration in terms of building classifications.
Consequently, if certain regulations and standards are not met, the person in-charge-specifically an architect, engineer, or designer of fire systems, must take the responsibilities of re-planning and re-designing according to proper procedures and guidelines set by the fire department.
Probably, there is so much to learn. Fire prevention is something people have to be serious about. Regulations, no matter how complex they are, need to be followed for public safety and general fire protection.
