It is winter time again and winter dog boots are out in the market. A responsible dog owner will not think twice on buying one to protect his precious hairy friend's paws from the hazards that the season brings. But there are times that you are short on your budget. You find it hard to fit it on your shopping list.

Would you just allow your pet to roam outside with his paws unprotected? Your pet could suffer frost bites if he walks on foot over the snow. The de-icing chemicals on the road will also cause irritation to his paws and will make him sick if he licks it. Can you bear to witness your pooch suffer these things? You will certainly look for another option to protect his paws. Perhaps you may consider a second hand winter dog boots.

But here is a cheaper alternative to acquire dog booties for your pets. You can make homemade dog boots. If you know the basic of sewing, then you can really save a lot on your pet's dog clothes. All you need are y yard of sturdy fabric (upholstery fabric, denim or canvas), 16 inches of Velcro 1 inch wide, marker, sewing scissors and sewing machine or needle and thread.

Here are the steps that you can follow in making dog booties:
1. Cut 8 rectangular fabrics (8 by 4.5 inches). Then draw a rounded edge on one end of each rectangle. You can use a small bowl as a pattern. Then cut it following the line of the rounded edge.

2. Put two pieces of rectangle together and stitch around leaving one straight end open. The open area will serve as the opening of the boots. Do the same to the other 3 pairs of boots.

3. Turn the bootie with its right side out. Fold the open edge about in inches and stitch it properly.

4. Make 4 straps but simply cutting the Velcro about 4 inches in length each. Then sew a piece on each of the bootie. This will secure the boots around the dog's paws.

With just these easy steps, your pet can now have his dog boots to protect him from snow.
