Custom Showers Are a Hot Item in Modern Bathrooms

A few years ago, the term custom showers would have made people give you a funny look. Showers were purely functional, and far from glamorous. But over the last few years they have become extremely popular, and they can add value to any home, old or new. Let's look at a few of the features of modern showers.

The most important feature of any custom shower is probably the shower head. There are many different styles and designs, from multiple head showers that hit virtually every part of your body simultaneously, to rain shower heads that give you the sensation of standing in a downpour.

The type of shower head you choose will depend partly on what type of project you're considering. If you're renovating an existing bathroom, and want to update it without completely gutting it, you'll find lots of specialty shower heads that will fit your existing plumbing.

But if you're building a new home or doing a major renovation on an older one, you'll have more choices. Rain shower heads, for example, are mounted in the ceiling above the shower, so they require more work to install.

Another popular feature in custom showers is stone tiles, and possibly even a bench or other seating to relax while you're in the shower. These make the shower more of a sauna or spa experience, rather than just a practical place to get clean.

The enclosure, or shower surround, will also have a bearing on your shower. Frameless shower doors, with hidden hinges and frosted glass, will add a very attractive look to your custom shower.

While your grandparents – and probably even your parents – might think you're out of your mind for spending the money and time on a room where you spend so little time, you'll enjoy your time in the shower much more. And, as an added bonus, if you decide it's time to sell your home, your custom shower will likely add quite a bit to the selling price.
