Bedroom Additions

One of the most popular home remodel projects out there is the addition of extra space to ones home, specifically the bedroom. Many homeowners choose to add an extra bedroom to their home because of the resale value and convenience that it offers. The addition of one bedroom can allow room for family members to live separately, guests to stay comfortably and an area for extra storage. The process of adding a bedroom to a home is much less time consuming than it looks. This process can actually be completed in a few short steps, if the work is done properly and efficiently.

The first step in adding additional space to a home is to decide on the amount of space that is going to be needed for the room. Using measuring tape, determine the exact dimensions of the desired room. Once you have determined this space, ask a contractor to determine what type of room would best be built in this area. Set a firm budget and ask the contractor to provide a quote and sketch of the room.

The walls of the new addition need to have soundproofing materials added to keep the area private and to cut down on noise from other areas of the home. Insulation and dry wall is best delivered using a forklift. A forklift ensures that the materials are delivered easily and without damage. Weather insulation also needs to be inserted into the walls of the new addition. It's important to use the same level of insulation in the new room as is found through the home.

Using an electrician or the contractor, make sure that all electrical outlets and heating needs are drilled into place properly and hooked up without flaw. Adding closets, windows and doorways that match the rest of the home is important in making the room look like the rest of the house.
