7 Things to Include When Traveling By Bus

A couple of years ago I took a bus trip, for the first time, to a school in New Hampshire. It was a short school in IT certification but the bus ride from Maryland was a full day.

It is interesting the types and kinds of people you find on a bus, not to mention in the terminals. There is a kind of old world charm in some of them and in others you have to watch your possessions closely.

Getting a ticket is a breeze and boarding is much the same. There are no long security lines and invasive searches involved at all. The thing is that is take 10 times as long to get where you want to be, but if you don’t mind the time or are not on a schedule then it might be the next best thing to taking a train. It is certainly much cheaper to travel this way.

The cost for airfare was going to be almost $400 and train travel was close to that. The bus ticket was $70 one way. Air travel would have been an hour and train 5 hours and then adding on the taxi or rental car fee it would be much more expensive. The bus brought me right to the town I was going to where I managed to get a ride to the school.

A couple of pointers I can give you are:

1. Make sure to pack a few snacks in your carry on luggage.

2. Bring a nice, small comfortable pillow and small blanket

3. Take a great book along

4. Bring a camera, you never know when something really worth remembering pops up into view.

5. Make sure to include some wet wipes

6. Music might be in order too as some people have loud voices, maybe bring along an IPod too

7. I like to combine number 3 and number 6 by including a few audio books too. That lets me watch the scenery AND listen to a great book or three.
