Some people enjoy the art of putting together these kits while other people like to focus more on flying them and really, when you get right down to it, it does not matter which of these you choose to focus on … you'll find plenty to keep you busy.
When putting together kits, you have several different options such as a balsa wood kit, ready to fly, and almost ready to fly, or a from scratch plan. This is basically the spectrum of options you'll be looking at.
On one end of the spectrum, ready to fly kids are exactly what they sound like – you open the box and they're ready to go. At the other end of the spectrum, however are the much more difficult from scratch plans where you basically start with nothing but a piece of paper and you have to buy all the materials yourself and do all the work.
There are many different options between these two poles of the spectrum depending on your level of experience and interest. Like I said earlier, there really is something for everyone in this great hobby!
There are even annual conventions through the country where radio controlled airplane enthusiasts get together and show off their latest creations, swap stories and tips, as well as buy and sell model airplanes and the real deal too.
The radio controlled airplane hobby may not be for everyone, but if you think you may be interested in it then I highly recommend doing a little research and diving right in. It will be well worth your time and effort!
