The Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 has the motto "Extra viewing space" and is advertised as a laptop with impressive features and high-end security systems sold at mainstream prices that can be easily afforded by any small business. We were a little skeptical about this advertisement and decided to try it for ourselves to see if it was true. So we bought ourselves a brand new SL510 as a test subject. At first glance it looks like a solid laptop with somewhat elegant lines. Some may even call its design stylish. However, we know that the secret is not its looks, but what is found inside the laptop. So we quickly began testing our new toy. Here is what came out.

The central processing unit, the brain of the Lenovo ThinkPad SL510, and the most important component in it is represented by a small Intel Celeron T3100 processor working at a reliably low speed of 1.9 GHz. Its front side bus (FSB) is just 800 MHz, probably smaller than that of some of its competitors, and the L2 cache of 1025 Kb is not great at all. The processing unit managed to pass our tests, although with some difficulty at times. It handled multi threading tests rather well for a single core processor, so we gave it 7 points out of a maximum of 10.

Next it was time to test the second most important part of Lenovo ThinkPad SL510's hardware configuration, the memory. At this chapter, the notebook stands its ground with 2 GB of DDR3 (just PC3 8500 unfortunately) random access memory (RAM). Its frequency is surprising, no less than 1067 MHz. The memory behaved very well in all our tests and we suspect it of speeding the central processing unit's test results a little. Well, regardless, the memory receives 9 out of 10 points.

Next, it was time to see how much we can store on our new Lenovo ThinkPad SL510 notebook. And the results are heart breaking. Considering the file sizes of new media like HD and Bluray movies, a 160 GB hard disk drive is simply not enough. And the HDD is working at the lowest possible speed, just 5400 rotations per minute. This clearly adversely affects the entire performance of the laptop. We sadly give it 6 out of 10 here. And the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M video card receives 8 points out of 10 points maximum. The 15.6 inch HD display, using Anti Glare technology receives 9 points.
