The Science behind the Concept
The pressure washer operates in much the same way that any other washing machine does, just on a much smaller scale. The science of clothes becoming clean involves heated water sealed in an airtight drum. The heat makes the air in the drum expand and this increases the pressure, thereby forcing the detergent and water into the fabric of the clothes. Meanwhile the agitating activity encourages the dirt to be blown out. Many of the large washing machines work on much the same principle, although with some variation.
Limited Space
Laundry still needs to be washed no matter how little space you live in and, as a more attractive alternative than a visit to the Laundromat is the idea of purchasing one of the portable table top washing machines that are now becoming more popular with today’s modern apartment dwellers. Look hard enough and you can find quite a range of these particularly diminutive models on the market, some as simple as a bucket with an agitator whilst others, such as the Wonder Washer is worked by a handle and relies on a build-up on pressure and the expansion of the warm water concept to clean your clothes.
Suncamp Portable
There are two models available, a twin tub that washes and spins clothes separately and a single tub that fulfils the functions of an automatic portable table top washing machine. The single tub has the capacity to take up to 1.5kg dry weight of laundry so although the capacity is small, it works perfectly well, making it ideal for camping or RVs.
Washmax Washer
This is another of the portable table top washing machines on the market. This particular one can hand 1.2kg capacity of clothes per load. It is a proper lightweight, weighing just 5kg, and measuring 340mm high, 340mm wide, with a depth of 380mm.
Pyramid Portawash
This is a semi-automatic although there is also a twin tub version available. The automatic has a 10 liter drum capacity that is able to take just 600gms of laundry. The automatic weighs just 4.8kg, with the twin tub weighing around10kg. They are both tiny enough to hide away in a closet when not in use. The twin tub capacity can take more washing, as much as 1.5kg dry weight of clothes.
Malber WD 1000
Reports about this model seem remarkably varied; in fact, the only thing in common seems to be that this portable table top washing machine inspires quite strong emotions – people either love it or hate it! This small washer hooks up to the kitchen sink when it’s in use and, to be quite honest, once you get used to its little idiosyncrasies, this is probably the worst you can say about this diminutive washing machine.
There are a particularly varied range of portable table top washing machines on the market, most of which are very good indeed. Some of these little washers are more robust than others whilst some need you to operate them gently to get the best out of them – and don’t overfill them. That said, if you put no more than the recommended load into any of these portable table top washing machines you will find that your laundry will come out of the wash at the end of the cycle beautifully clean and ready for drying.
